Wanted: secluded mountain cabin for aspiring writer
The question this month is if I could pick one place in the world to write my next story, where would it be and why?
I would love to go for a weekend or week writing retreat in the mountains. I do have a few caveats – the secluded mountain cabin must have indoor plumbing and air conditioning (or at least windows that open). Coffee pot, creamer. Comfy bed with down comforter for napping, I mean “deep plotting.” I feel like this describes our home in Indiana a bit, except there are the distractions present that keep me from concentrating: kitties and dog wanting attention, needing food and potty access. Husband who wants to talk, eat meals together and do chores. He does take care of his other needs ;-). You see the conundrum?
There are also the intangibles that keep me from renting this cabin. Guilt because I should be home spending time with our family when not at (paid) work/employment. Also spending the money on myself rather than other needs that we have.
If money were no object, I would love for this cabin to be in Italy or even Switzerland or Germany. A girl can dream, right?
For now, I’ll try and carve out time amidst the other daily responsibilities and hope for the best.
What about you? What is your creative writing dream location?

Love your dream! I agree that indoor plumbing is a must for a writing retreat (unless I could find a really amazing treehouse cabin somewhere with a toilet nearby – they have those near Vancouver, B.C.).
I would love to write in a lighthouse – and I have a plan – not a solid plan, but a someday it’s possible plan.
Happy writing!!!

You’ve got it spot on there – both with the requirements at the dream location and the difficult distractions of everyday life and loved ones. My other half has been off work for 6 months and so both underfoot & needing to talk to me far more than usual. Sure I love him to bits, but now he’s back at work and my writing is starting to happen again 🙂

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Our families are just holding us back. 🙂
It’s not their fault, but a getaway cabin is just what you need.

I’d stay there! But yeah, the indoor plumbing is a must. And it’d be nice if someone else did the shopping and stocked the cabin. Including unlimited wine 😉

Don’t forget the s’mores!
