Celebrate the Small Things: Taking stock of life’s summer harvest

summer field for webIt’s the end of August, which is a month that marks for many the beginning of school, the end of vacations and an end to summer, which has breezed past us in a humid fog.

I ran across this photo from last year and it reminded me of summer’s progress. I’ve accomplished some of my goals (indicated by the harvested area of the field) but there is still time to water, weed and harvest healthy crops. There’s still time to celebrate what’s left of summer. And, I’m trying really hard not to rush into fall, which is my favorite time of year.

I have this yearning to still learn and do so much more before summer ends. I’m not quite sure where July and August went, but I feel certain that someone hit the fast-forward button and I’d like to go back and review some of the footage.

I have days and weeks when I’m super productive (in my eyes) at work and at home and then there are days (usually Saturdays) when I seem to shut down and reboot. My battery runs low and my creativity is at a lull. Add to that 90 plus-degree weather with 150 percent humidity, and I’m sometimes at a standstill.

Hubby Joe and I have learned about and have begun binge-watching the TV series Parenthood which ran from 2010-2015 on NBC. How did we miss this amazing, well-written and acted prime-time show? We’re up to season three and if you haven’t watched it, you need to add it to your “must-see” list. I can’t do it justice in this blog (because it’s Saturday and my creativity is at a lull), but it’s one of the best shows that I’ve seen in years.

We laugh, cry and exclaim “oh no” many times in a single episode. It’s expanded my heart. It’s the reboot I need to examine my own life and realize how much I have to be thankful for. It’s a reminder that I have good friends and family that I love with all of my heart. It reminds me how precious time is and that I don’t want to waste even one minute. And, it allows me to take a bit of time to reflect, recharge and thank God for all that he has blessed me with.

So, I continue to celebrate the small things, including August and September, and the approaching of fall. I’m glad there isn’t a rewind button because there’s no sense spending time on July and August when there are plenty of crops to harvest, right in front of me.

I know! It’s seems July and August whipped by. Yes, I’m dying to get to fall (also my favorite time of the year), but I was shocked when I realized it’s only a few days until Sept. It’s obvious you work very hard and you need some down time. I’m glad you appreciate all the precious things in your life, and that you found a show that gives you pleasure. I wish you a great weekend and more delightful episodes of “Parenthood”!

August did shoot by…and I had so many things I wanted to get done. But I’m a total Fall/Winter person, so I’m not crying too much. As to the heat and humidity, I really wish that part would disappear. It’s good to have high work and low relax days. Enjoy your show!

Thanks for visiting my blog. I’m a Fall/Winter person also so I agree. I can’t wait for festivals, pumpkin recipes, baking comfort foods and our first snow. Have a great week!
