#AtoZChallenge: Up movie by Disney
2009 Walt Disney Picture’s Pixar Productions’ publicity photo. I recently rented the 2009 animated adventure “Up” and was incredibly moved by it (no pun intended). You see, the plot of the movie involves a 78-year-old widower named Carl Frederickson who ties thousands of helium-inflated balloons to his house in order to lift it and transport it and himself to the wilds of South America. He is (or was) a balloon salesman, so he’s uniquely qualified for the task. While there were parts of the movie that moved a bit slowly, the story line was so ingenious that it kept me focused. For a computer-animated comedy, it was for me a…

#AtoZChallenge: Life everlasting
Since it’s Good Friday, I’m reposting an appropriate reflection for the A to Z Challenge. Hope you enjoy! I recently talked about going on junkets with my friend, Sandy. One of our favorite sites to explore is an older graveyard. No, we’re not into the macabre and we don’t visit them at night. (We wouldn’t be able to see anything in the dark!) We like to read tombstones and wonder about the people behind (or as it were, underneath) them. The stories are different. We may find families that are buried together at different times. Some of the headstones are worn, overturned or broken but you can still decipher what…

Oh boy…!
Life is a journey, not a destination. So is my blog. Road leading to T. C. Steele’s workshop in Brown County, Indiana. © 2013 by Diane Weidenbenner Life got the better of me and I did not finish the Blogging A to Z Challenge. There, I said it. It’s out there. I’m a loser with a capital “L”! I am also excited because the Blogging A to Z Challenge is offering a second chance, of sorts, to 1) continue visiting bloggers who participated in the original 2014 challenge and 2) finish my own challenge. Since life is a journey and not a destination, I have a second chance. So, I…

Providence and roses
“As Providence would have it” is a phrase that’s common where I work. You see, I work for a group of Catholic nuns (they prefer the term women religious). I’ve always believed in the Providence of God although I didn’t use that terminology when I was younger. One of my favorite verses is “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) I believe this with all my heart but some days it’s hard to hold on to, physically. I’m surrounded, daily, by strong, incredible women of faith but I…

Do unto others …
Sunset on Brookville Lake, Liberty, Ind. What if we — Met resistance with kindness … Countered hatred with love … Lifted each other up instead of undermining each other? Gave support instead of criticism … Offered assistance instead of condemnation … Encouraged one another instead of judging one another? Made the first move instead of waiting … Apologized instead of demanding the same … Tabled our anger for timely reflection? Prayed to God instead of complaining … Thanked God for the good instead of holding on to the bad … Trusted God with the future instead of fearing the past? These thoughts have been on my mind lately and reflect…

Hostas with the most-est
What an amazing season spring is! One day the grass, trees, bushes and other plants are brown, dry and easily crunched between your fingers. And, the next day it rains and thunders a bit and voila! Everything is green. It’s like all the plants have gotten together and decided to cooperate. It’s a symbol of the best team spirit I’ve ever witnessed. Everything has sprouted overnight. Our house backs up to Lost Creek and in the winter, although hundreds of trees and bushes line the creek bed and shelter us from our neighbors’ prying eyes and the roaring traffic of 13th Street, they are leafless. We can see AutoZone from…

Lord, please give me patience. Now!
I’m in desperate need of patience. And, I’m becoming impatient about it! I get home after work and my “to do” list overwhelms me. It’s the same with the weekend. And, my husband, Joe, completes most of the weekly tasks for our survival – what’s my problem?! It’s the little things that get to me. I’ve had a sinus/respiratory infection and it’s been hard to sleep. I have tendonitis in my left ankle. We’re between seasons so it’s too soon to plant flowers but too late to plant bulbs. It’s too muddy to remove the straw from our backyard but there isn’t enough moisture to plant grass seed. I want…
