“J”ust because …

You can almost see where the two parts of Fallen Rock would fit back together, if there wasn’t a tree and a lot of years in-between. Photos by Diane Weidenbenner.

My friend, Sandy, and I take off on discovery drives when the weather is nice. An area near Mansfield Mill in Parke County, Indiana, has hidden treasures completely separate from the busy days of October’s Covered Bridge Festival.

I wonder what geologists would say about the cool striations in this rock. What were they caused by? Ice, years of pressure and extreme temperature? A portly squirrel?

One only has to drive south out of town on Fallen Rock Road to find sandstone bluffs and a massive limestone rock that broke away years ago. You come around the turn to find these rock formations that are reminiscent of the Rocky Mountains of my beloved birth state, Colorado. You also see Rock Fork Creek and the Fall Rock Campground to the right.

These are just a few of the fun photos that we took. You never know what joys you are going to encounter on a drive in Indiana. Enjoy!

I have spent time driving around there and totally agree. I grew up in southern Illinois and there are many similar places to explore. Today, I live in Vietnam and get to look around a totally different type of environment.

I am at Transformed Nonconformist. I usually write humor pieces, but I am getting serious this month. I’m writing about people who have deeply impacted my life.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I’ve read several of yours and they are really thoughtful. I haven’t read any of your humor pieces – yet. Keep up the good work. Would love to hear more about living in Vietnam (and how you got there). I bet it is a very different environment than southern Illinois.
