#IWSG: What’s the one thing about your writing career you regret the most?
This month’s question for the Insecure Writer’s Support Group makes me a little sad but it also addresses a topic that I’ve been thinking a lot about.
I just turned 59 (isn’t that the new 39?) I regret not having a cozy mystery published by this time in my life.
I’ve written articles for trade magazines. I’ve written non-fiction articles for my current position for a nonprofit and there are several for which I am proud.
I also regret not carving out more dedicated writing time daily and have thought about it every day for the last 20 years. If I actually spent the time writing, instead of flogging myself for not writing, I would probably have several books written.
I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m where I’m supposed to be and that I’ve spent my time doing what I was supposed to do. I have to “live by the Spirit” in many ways, and trust that God and my intuition have steered me in the write direction (see what I did there?) Perhaps I can make the Guinness Book of World Records for being the oldest person to finally get published. Something to strive for, that’s for sure.
Thanks for visiting my blog this month. Happy New Year!

I think we all do things in our own time and in our own way. Maybe the time for your novel has just arrived. And no, you’ wont get into the Guinness so easily. I think there was a writer who published her first book in her seventies. A successful book too, from what I’ve heard. Don’t remember her name though.

Thanks for your encouraging words. Rats about the Guinness Book of World Records though. 😉

Diane, you nailed it. We are where we are and it’s all good.
