IWSG: What do you love about the genre you write in most often?
I write in two different genres. I’m currently writing a fiction mystery but I confess that I haven’t worked on it in a while. I also enjoy writing a non-fiction blog but, again, I haven’t been adding to it as consistently as I’d like.
I love writing mysteries because that’s my favorite genre to read. I like all mysteries but am partial to cozies where character development, and setting, are as important as the plot. Cozies are usually written as a series so I also enjoy the progression of the main characters (at least those who don’t get killed off).
A few writers that I prefer are: Janet Evanovich, Diane Mott Davidson, Sally Goldenbaum, Sheila Connolly, Linda O. Johnston, Charlaine Harris, Elizabeth Peters, Nancy Pickard and non-cozy authors Nelson DeMille, Harlan Coben and Mary Higgens Clark.
I enjoy writing my non-fiction blog posts for two reasons. First, it’s like an online diary where I can record some of the more memorable times in my life with those I love. Second, it allows me a creative outlet and is a lot cheaper than professional therapy!
What are some of your favorite authors and do you prefer to write in the genre in which you read?

I have so many favourite authors in all genres except horror. Horror gives me nightmares and so I prefer not to read it. However, I am a voracious reader and read both fiction and non-fiction. Now, that I am working on submitting my manuscript, I don’t have the time to read as I would like to but I still read. I usually spend a day or maybe two days just reading in a week but moving towards my goals has me reading whenever I can. Anne Perry, Catherine Anderson, Catherine Marshall, C.S. Lewis are just a few of the authors that I have on my kindle app on my iPad.
Wishing you all the best.

Thanks for visiting and good luck with your manuscript. I like those authors as well. What did we do before we had iPads – carry around heavy books, that’s what!

Ha! I know what you mean about it being cheaper than therapy! If something’s on my mind it really helps to write it all out (not necessarily for public consumption though!) Thanks for sharing 🙂

I enjoy reading mysteries – more along the lines of suspense/thrillers – but I don’t write them. Although, there is usually a sense of mystery in horror. 🙂

Hi, Diane! I’ve clicked network blogs to follow your blog, but I don’t see my picture come up. Please let me know if I’m still not following you and I’ll try again. I’ll connect with you online.
Great post here. I LOVE Mary Higgins Clark and many of the other authors, too. I agree with Pat. I can’t read horror. I also have nightmares. All the best to you.
