#CTST: Snow and winter!

In Celebrating the Small Things, I’m celebrating snow (and the beauty of winter) today!

I’ve always loved snow. And, I’ve discovered that not everyone is enthusiastic about snow as I am. I try and temper my excitement but it can be difficult. Especially when snow is accompanied by 8-degree weather!

Snow brings into focus attributes of nature that don’t always “shine” in spring and summer. For example, there is a wetlands area where I work (on 1,200 beautiful, varied acres) that can’t be seen through the thick trees. In the winter, this area takes on its own personality, with leaf-less trees framing the wooden walkway down to the ravine.

I also enjoy the way the sunshine seems to highlight areas of buildings and other special areas around the grounds. Taking photos in the morning and near sunset ensure that even an amateur photographer gets beautiful pictures.

I hope you enjoy viewing these as much as I enjoyed taking them. Happy snow day!

The Church of the Immaculate Conception is in the background, with the exterior of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in the foreground.
O’Shaughnessy Dining Hall has these grand, floor-to-ceiling windows. If you look closely, you can see the large church steeple in the reflection. No snow but because it’s winter, the steam from the powerhouse is in full swing.
This is the powerhouse with the out-of-commission smokestacks to the right. The original red brick in its ornate design, is pretty anytime of the year.

Just a super cool tree with ornamental snow.
