CTST: Hummingbirds are such sweet visitors!

Celebrate the Small Things: Our hummingbird friends are back!

Hummingbird2
Our feeder and “friends” from last year. The squirrels and raccoons declared war on this feeder, ripping it to shreds, so we had to get one that attaches to the window and is unavailable to our four-legged friends.

We have a pair of hummingbirds that come and dine with us each year but with the busy, hot summer, I was remiss in putting their feeder out. I was in the kitchen working on my computer last weekend and one of them “dropped by” to let me know!

It’s hilarious and sweet! They hover with their helicopter wings and look me right in the eye (or so it seems). And, while they are polite, they are also persistent. So, I ran to the garage, got the feeder, mixed up the food and placed it, with suction cup, on my window. The holder is cracked so I’m hoping it holds until the end of the season.

So far, so good. It wasn’t more than 45 minutes before the couple came to dine. I made the food fairly sweet to show them my gratitude for sticking with us. They are so friendly and usually visit us often during the day, but in the evening for sure when I can see and appreciate them. Love these hummingbirds!

What about you? Is there a special type of wildlife that you enjoy during the summer months?

I love hummingbirds too! We totally enjoyed them at their feeder on the front porch when we stayed in a cabin in Southern Colorado this summer! We don’t have them around where we live in West Texas, too hot and dry I guess. We have roadrunners, which are definitely not the same, but quite entertaining on their own, and not very afraid of people!

How adorable! I’d love it if I could see hummingbirds flying around my windows! They are s cute. Sadly, we only have pigeons and gulls here. Not cute. Have a good weekend!
