To say that I’m anxious for spring is an understatement. The anticipation is enough to make me write Shakespearean blog titles. I’m an all-or-nothing kind of gal. If I can’t have two feet of snow, I’d really like to see flower buds and forsythia.

In Indiana we have four seasons but they are not created equal. The two summer months when it is 90 degrees and 150 percent humidity seem to last a lifetime. Fall is beautiful and is a satisfying three months, if it hasn’t been too dry. And lest you think that humidity means rain, it does not. It’s perfectly possible to have a humid, no-rain summer – where is the justice for the plants in that?

During the winter, I can suffer from snowflake envy, especially since I’m from Denver and they are reporting six to 12 inches of fluffy white stuff every few weeks. We had a few measurable snowfalls this season in Indiana so I can’t complain – much.

Spring for the last two years has been a relatively short two-month period (mid-April until June), especially if the hot, humid summer begins early. If you’re like me and you’d love to see signs of spring, I’ve uploaded a few photos from last year to get you through April, until you have some actual flowery inspiration of your own. Enjoy!

Lovely flowers. My Dad loves gardening and (though we have very little space) he has managed to grow some lovely flowers which look absolutely divine.

We've had our first forest fire out here in Northern Colorado, so it must be spring:(
Beautiful flowers, Diane, and wonderful post.
