#AtoZChallenge: Bouquets or garden flowers?
One thing that I look forward to in the spring and summer is the variety of flowers and plants that spring up around our house. We have several rose bushes, iris, lilac, lillies – all make for a beautiful, fragrant bouquets inside. However, the dilemma is that once I cut the flowers and bring them inside, they don’t last very long. And, they aren’t visible and make for a barren landscape outside.
I also struggle a tiny bit with the question, “Who am I to think that I should cut these blossoms and hurt the plant, just so I can have beautiful flowers in the house for a few days?” God creates such beauty each year out of seeds, Earth, water and sunshine and I simply go out and pluck the bounty for my own enjoyment. Seems a bit arrogant and selfish. Weren’t they meant to flourish outside in nature?
I sometimes wish that I could bring the beauty of cherry or crab apple blossoms inside. I’ve thought about buying artificial substitutes and creating an arrangement or two to have but it just isn’t the same. I can’t smell the sweet, fresh fragrance of plastic or fabric look-alikes.

That's a good idea to cut the flowers near the end of their life so to speak to enjoy them inside. Hadn't thought about it before of picking them and taking away their water source, etc. Very interesting concept!
Visiting from A/Z; enjoy the rest of the challenge!

I love having spring flowers in the house, so daffodils or tulips etc, but in the summer I would much prefer to see them growing in the garden. I like your photograph of a hydrangea. We have one in the front garden which is blue, and one in the back garden – which was taken from a cutting of the one in the front – and that one is pink. I'll never understand those plants! Thanks for stopping by my blog on the A-Z challenge. Best wishes to you for the rest of the month. Pam.

If you can have the best of both worlds, that’s ideal. I used to have fresh flowers in the house all the time, but now I have a cat that eats them, so outdoors only it is!

I know the feeling. If I do get flowers, they go up on top of the cabinets where we don’t see them again until they are “dried flowers.” Better to keep the kitties (and pup) healthy than have a huge vet bill!
