Environment
I’ve always enjoyed the environment and all the gifts that it has to offer. Right now, as I work at my kitchen table, I spy this hardworking pileated woodpecker hopping up and down this poor tree, looking for lunch.
Were I to show you the entire tree, it would be a sad photo, as groundhogs, woodpeckers and other animals have ravaged it. It has many holes and missing bark. It’s also lost many of its limbs from storms. It’s a very high tree but my husband and I know that sometime soon, it will fall to earth. Even so, its roots must be deep because it’s holding its own this spring.
It is a stressful time in the U.S. right now – Covid-19 moves across our state, people are out of jobs and businesses are struggling to survive. We are sheltering in place unless our jobs are deemed “essential,” and if our jobs aren’t, we’re filling in for those at work whose jobs are necessary.
I’m hoping that my personal roots are deep enough to sustain me. First, I’m thinking about my faith – are my beliefs in, and relationship with, God strong enough to withstand the constant pecking of external circumstances (like the woodpecker on the tree). I’m trying to read God’s word more, and pray more, during this time to fertilize my roots.
Our roots with family and friends are being tested during this time as well. When we can’t see loved ones face-to-face, are we doing enough to uphold others, and help strengthen their roots? Are there people in close proximity to me that I could offer a hand to, that I don’t know as well? I could be doing so much more!
How are you strengthening your roots during this spring season, so as to weather current and future storms?

Covid-19 was a major disruption in everyone’s life, and I really hope things get back to normal soon. Kind of puts everything into perspective.

Love the woodpecker. I miss seeing lots of birds. A great picture.

Do you not have a lot of birds where you live? Are you in a big city? I used to live in Denver and I know there were birds but I didn’t notice them the way I do in Indiana. Thanks for visiting my blog. I appreciate it!

Returning your A-Z visit and enjoyed today’s post. I am doing the same as you…doing the things that must be done, continuing on, and spending more time with God to keep my focus where it should be.

Love the strengthening roots metaphor. Mostly I’m trying to be kind to myself and my fellow quarantinos. This isn’t a time to expect perfection and perfect productivity. It’s a time to slow down, appreciate all we have, and find joy where we can. Thanks for a great post!
