“G”rateful for daffodils
Last year we had to cut down two trees in our backyard. One tree was dead and was going to eventually fall on our back deck and house. The other tree was a casualty and had to be cut down so the dead tree could then be taken down. Both trees were huge and well-established. I hated cutting down a perfectly good tree.
This tree always had a multitude of daffodils planted around it and every spring I’d say that I needed to thin them out so they would continue flowering. Every year, we only had a few flowers. The rest were all green sprouts. Every year I forgot.
This year, the sun reaches these daffodils full-on, since there is just a stump and no tree to shield them. This year, we have tons of daffodils! I still need to thin them but they are blossoming like a full-blown orchestra.
I wonder if my life is like that sometimes. There is something blocking my way to learning a lesson or growing in a specific area. Then, in one fell swoop, the obstacle is gone and I see things more clearly. I’m able to blossom more fully like these daffodils.
By the way, don’t you like saying the word “daffodil”? It’s such a phonetic word. You have to be intentional to say daffodil. It’s not a word that you would say by accident … and a bit difficult to spell over and over again.
What obstacle might you be facing today, that is stopping you from learning or doing things better or differently?

Your daffodils are gorgeous! One of my favorite flowers. I truly appreciate your reflection on how removing obstacles can help us bloom. So true!

What a beautiful photo! I, too, hate to see trees cut down. We have a huge pine tree growing not too far from our deck and I enjoy hearing and seeing the birds that rest and play there. Your post made me ponder what obstacles might be blocking me in some area of my life. Good thoughts! Thanks for visiting my blog via the A to Z Challenge. 🙂

Daff-o-dils. I haven’t thought of the word in much detail before your post. I will ponder what may need to be cleared out.

I hadn’t either. Such a distinctive word for such a distinctive flower. Thanks for visiting my blog!
