Kindness Challenge (wk3) and CTST: Kind energy

Yellow rose 2016 web
One of our first roses of the season. This is a new plant – isn’t the color pretty? Celebrating the small things, and acts of kindness, in nature!

In Celebrating the Small Things – I got through the week with the flu and work and tried to get enough rest to heal quickly. Still shooting to have my cataract surgery on Wednesday, if I’m not coughing. Please pray for me!

Kindness Challenge update: I’m realizing that although the goal of week 3 is to incorporate kindness into my thoughts and actions, that this is probably going to be a life-long journey. I certainly didn’t master it this week.

My husband and I both had the flu so I tried to be kind but failed as often as I succeeded, because my energy level was nil. I tried to make sure that we had healthier food available by buying fruits and vegetables at the store. I also thing that it’s important to spend intentional time together with my husband so watched a movie together, and ate more meals together. It’s so easy to do my own thing and not consider his thoughts or feelings.

Another “first rose of 2016”, off of a bush my husband got me for our anniversary. It’s a survivor!

I supervise a staff at work so it’s sometimes hard to balance being kind with being a good manager. The decisions I make are not always the popular ones but I work hard to make the best ones with the information I have at the time. Our workload is heavy so I want to help the staff with managing priorities while ensuring that the work gets done.

I do believe that kind acts begin with kind thoughts, so I am working on thinking positive, genuine thoughts about people and situations, so I don’t have a negative attitude. My hope is that, at the end of the day, my actions will reflect kindness. And, I remind myself that tomorrow is always another day, and another opportunity to do/be better.

I'm Diane, a marketing executive in the non-profit sector living in Terre Haute, Indiana. My husband and I moved from Denver, Colorado, 15-plus years ago and this blog highlights our joys and challenges in adjusting to our new home and town. I also share things I love: photography, wildlife and domestic pets, writing, knitting, making jewelry, food, travel, my faith in God and music. I'm also writing a mystery novel so stay tuned!

Awww I hope you start to feel better soon! I love how gentle you were with yourself in this post. There’s nothing wrong with this being a process and something to practice for more than a week. Some weeks will come more naturally than others. If you feel the need to repeat this week once you feel better or just be mindful and incorporate it into the next week, feel free to do what feels right so you get the most out of it. Thank you so much for participating! The roses are beautiful! 🙂

Got through the eye surgery just fine – thanks for the prayers. Catching up with blogging this week and hope to be back on track by the weekend. Hope you’re having a good week!

Hope you are 100% well and ready for your surgery. I had cataracts removed from both eyes last year. It was a fascinating experience. Your roses are beautiful!

Yes, cataract surgery has been interesting. I ended up having some “corneal reshaping” so the final outcome is anybody’s guess. I had a very bad prescription so it will be neat to “see” how it turns out. Right now I don’t need glasses or contacts, even for reading up close. I’m sure things will settle a bit. Thanks for your well-wishes!

Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know you’ve danced across my mind a few times in the past couple of days so I thought I’d stop by. Hope all is well and of course…kind 😉
