“U”nique things
I attended an Earth Day celebration at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., and bought this unique, old pin from one of the vendors. He was donating a percentage to breast cancer and he had several really cool ones. His wife had the business with him until she recently passed away.
The pins are vintage (he said 30s and it does have a “c” clasp on the back. Could also be from the 60s or 70s based on my research). Even if it’s not ancient, it’s unique in it’s shape, choice of stones and Celtic design. The bar through the middle represents a Scottish walking stick and the wreath includes the infinity symbol. I love making old jewelry new again – I guess it’s a type of reduce, reuse, recycle (in the true spirit of Earth Day and sustainable living).
The markings on the back say “Mizpah” adapted from Genesis 31:49, “May the LORD watch between you and me when we are absent one from the other.” It also includes two joined hearts with an arrow through it.
Some suggest that it’s a sign of devotion between friends or loved ones while they were apart and usually also carried with it an understanding of protection. If you could see the pin more clearly, you’d notice that the stones are red, medium and dark purple, peridot green and turquoise blue. I think it’s pretty. Do you own any old, unique jewelry and if so, does it have special meaning for you?

Older jewelry had such meaning and personality. I've got a piece or two of my grandmother's that I would never wear, but I like to have 🙂

I don't own anything that special, though I'd love to. The closest thing I have is a small piano (imagine a toy version of a Steinway) a very dear uncle inherited me after his death. Pretty but not quite an antique.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Very interesting. I am not much into jewelry so I would never have been aware of all of the wonderful details if you didn't point them out. thanks.
